For first time KCR’s family stays away from polls

Hyderabad, March 25, 2024: In a surprising turn of events, the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has decided to sit out of the Lok Sabha elections for the first time in its 23-year history, marking a significant departure from its usual electoral strategy. Notably absent from the candidate list are key members of the party founder K. Chandrasekhar Rao's family, including Rao himself, his son K. T. Rama Rao, nephew T. Harish Rao, and his daughter K. Kavitha.

Speculations were rife regarding the potential candidacy of KCR, K. T. Rama Rao, or T. Harish Rao, all prominent figures within the BRS, for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. However, to the surprise of many, none of them, including the former Lok Sabha member K. Kavitha, have chosen to contest this time.

K. Kavitha, a member of the Telangana Legislative Council, who faced defeat in the 2019 elections from the Nizamabad Lok Sabha constituency, is notably absent from the electoral fray this time. Her recent brush with legal issues, following her arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with an alleged Delhi excise policy scam, may have influenced her decision to abstain from contesting.

The BRS, formerly known as the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), has been a formidable force in Telangana politics since its inception in 2001. Led by KCR, the party played a pivotal role in the formation of the separate state of Telangana in 2014.

Despite its recent setback in the state Assembly elections, where it lost power to the Congress, the BRS remains confident in its electoral prospects for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. With the announcement of Gaddam Srinivas Yadav's candidacy from the Hyderabad Lok Sabha seat, the party has now declared candidates for all 17 seats scheduled for polling on May 13.

Emphasizing a commitment to social inclusivity, the BRS has strategically chosen candidates representing various caste groups, aiming to strike a chord with diverse segments of the electorate. The party claims that this approach reflects KCR's efforts to maintain social equilibrium within the party and earn the trust of all sections of society.

Despite the absence of key leaders from the electoral fray, the BRS exudes confidence in its candidates' ability to secure victory. With leaders already engaging in grassroots campaigns and garnering support from the electorate, the party anticipates a favorable outcome in the forthcoming elections.

As the election fervor gains momentum, BRS Chief KCR is poised to intensify the party's campaign efforts by personally visiting constituencies and rallying support from the masses. With a concerted push from its leadership and widespread grassroots mobilization, the BRS aims to secure a resounding victory in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
