Two Telangana constables die by suicide in separate incidents
Hyderabad witnessed tragic news on Sunday, December 29, as two police constables in Telangana died by suicide in separate incidents reported from Medak and Siddipet districts.
Incident in Medak
In the first case, Head Constable Sai Kumar, 52, was found hanging from a tree within the premises of the Kulcharam police station in Medak.
Reports suggest that Kumar had tea at a nearby stall before taking the extreme step. His colleagues were left shocked upon discovering his body. The deceased’s remains were sent to the government hospital in Medak for a postmortem examination.
Incident in Siddipet
In a more harrowing case from Siddipet on December 27, Telangana Special Police (TSP) constable Pandari Balakrishna, 38, reportedly poisoned his wife and two children before hanging himself.
Balakrishna and his wife poisoned their children, Yaswanth (11) and Ashrith (9), before he resorted to suicide. Neighbors rushed the family to a nearby hospital in Siddipet, where the wife and children are undergoing treatment.
Balakrishna, a native of Siddipet, was serving in the 17th Battalion in Siricilla. The motive behind his actions remains unclear, and Siddipet police are investigating the incident.
Previous Similar Case
In November, a traffic police constable, Kankuri Ravishankar, 42, from Nalgonda district, also died by suicide. Ravishankar, a native of Cheruvugattu village, had returned home on Deepavali leave. He locked himself in his room, citing tiredness, and was later found hanging by his family. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead on arrival.
The growing instances of police personnel resorting to suicide have raised concerns over mental health and stress among law enforcement officers. Investigations into these cases are ongoing.
