Nitish launches vaccination drive for teenagers

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday launched a vaccination drive for teenagers aged between 15 to 18 to protect them from Corona infections.

Kumar launched a vaccination drive at Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) in Patna.

State Health Minister Mangal Pandey and senior officials of the health department were also present at the launch drive.

Chief Minister, after launching the vaccination drive, told media persons that a survey had already been conducted to assess the requirement for vaccination of teenagers in the age group of 15 to 18 years.

More than 10 Crore vaccination have already been done in Bihar and the drive is still on for vaccinating those above 18 years, he added.

Kumar stated that testing average per 10 lakh population in Bihar was higher than national average.

Tests may increase further in Bihar in the days ahead due to the risk of an increase in the Omicron variant of Coronavirus, he added.

Chief Minister said that Genome Sequencing testings had started in IGIMS from Monday itself.

It would help in early detection of Omicron variant as earlier much time was being consumed in sending samples to New Delhi for testings and getting its reports, he added.

Kumar while responding to a query on restrictions to be imposed because of the increasing number of Corona positive cases, said that a meeting would be held on Tuesday to review the situation. A decision would be taken on restrictions after the review meeting tomorrow, he added.
