Hyderabad: Telangana Biryani Shop Owner Released After Wrongful Detainment at Chennai Airport

Zakaria, a biryani shop owner from Telangana's Warangal district, who was recently detained at Chennai Airport on suspicion of alleged terror links, has been released by the police. The incident occurred on January 25 when Zakaria was stopped by Chennai Airport police while en route to Colombo, Sri Lanka.

In a press statement, Zakaria voiced his frustration over the detainment and the subsequent media coverage. "We were traveling to Sri Lanka for our organization’s work. Immigration officials detained us, suspecting terror links. After a thorough interrogation, they realized their mistake and released me," Zakaria explained.

He also criticized local media outlets for their coverage of the incident. "They broadcast as they wish, branding me as a terrorist," he said, expressing his anger over the way the news was sensationalized.

Zakaria owns Royal Bawarchi Biryani Point, a popular eatery located under the Shivanagar bridge in Warangal. Beyond running his business, he is also a religious preacher who frequently travels abroad for meetings and events.

"Zakaria is a respected figure in the district and has no criminal record. People here know him very well," confirmed the circle inspector of Warangal district, adding further clarity to his reputation in the local community.
