Saudi Arabia Issues Warning Against Consumption of SHTINE Bottled Water
The Saudi Food and Drug Authority (SFDA) has issued a warning to withdraw SHTINE bottled drinking water from the local market due to high levels of bromate, a chemical that forms during water disinfection. Produced by Yanabi Najd Manufacturing Company in Zulfi Governorate, SHTINE bottled water was found to exceed the maximum permissible bromate concentration of 10 parts per billion, as set by Saudi Gulf Technical Regulation No. 1025. Laboratory tests revealed that these limits were surpassed, posing potential health risks.
The SFDA has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health, vowing to continue monitoring drinking water facilities, inspecting local market products, and enforcing regulations to ensure safety and quality. Additionally, the SFDA warned that violators of food system and executive regulations may face fines of up to 10 million Saudi Riyals, imprisonment for up to 10 years, or both.
