Hyderabad: Police Constable Dies by Suicide in Amberpet

A police constable, Bhanu Shanker, died by suicide in Hyderabad’s Amberpet area on Sunday, January 5. Shanker, a 2002-batch constable, was stationed in the Vikarabad district. His wife and two children reside in Amberpet.

The incident occurred while the family was at home. Shanker went into a room and hanged himself from the ceiling fan. When his family discovered him, they attempted to revive him but were unsuccessful.

Upon being alerted, the Amberpet police arrived at the scene and shifted Shanker’s body to a hospital for a postmortem examination. Amberpet police inspector stated, “The constable died by suicide due to ill health. A case has been registered under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanahita (BNSS).”

This marks the latest in a series of police constable suicides in Telangana. In response to the trend, Telangana Director General of Police, Dr. Jitendra, urged the media not to generalize such incidents. He emphasized that various factors might contribute to these tragedies, and it is not possible to attribute them to a single cause.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
