Senior Congress leader and National Coordinator of the All India Kisan Congress, Khaleequr Rahman, has warmly welcomed the reappointment of Sam Pitroda as the Chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress (IOC). Rahman believes that Pitroda's reappointment will significantly strengthen the IOC's global presence and will be instrumental in promoting the Gandhian ideology of the Congress party beyond India's borders.

Rahman said Sam Pitroda is an internationally respected development thinker, policymaker, inventor, and entrepreneur with a career spanning over 55 years in telecommunications. Often referred to as the father of the Telecom revolution in India, Pitroda's contributions have been pivotal in transforming India's telecommunications landscape. His efforts during Rajiv Gandhi's administration were crucial in bridging the global digital divide, and his visionary leadership has been widely recognized.

Pitroda's pioneering work includes the invention of the electronic diary in 1974 and the mobile wallet in 1996. In the mid-1990s, he founded Worldtel in London, an initiative aimed at privatizing telecom in developing countries. His innovative foresight predicted the obsolescence of landlines, a statement he made in an interview published in Newtime in 1995. At the time, it seemed far-fetched, but his prediction came true, as witnessed by the global shift to mobile communications.

Rahman expressed his admiration for Pitroda, highlighting his role in making mobile calls and data in India some of the cheapest in the world. He emphasized that Pitroda's leadership will not only fortify the IOC on a global scale but also help in disseminating the Congress party's message rooted in Gandhian principles.

"Sam Pitroda’s reappointment will not only strengthen the IOC globally but will also be further instrumental in taking the message of the Congress party of the Gandhian ideology beyond India," Rahman stated. He praised Pitroda's unparalleled contributions to the telecommunications sector, noting how his visionary ideas have revolutionized the industry and impacted millions of lives.
