Atom on Wheels’ Launched in Andhra Pradesh to Educate Public on Nuclear Energy
Mobile exhibition aims to educate communities in Srikakulam on the benefits and safety of nuclear energy through interactive displays and educational outreach.
Srikakulam:In a bid to dispel myths surrounding nuclear energy and promote awareness of its benefits, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, has launched a mobile exhibition campaign titled “Atom on Wheels.”
The campaign was inaugurated at the Government College of Women in Srikakulam by Principal Smt. N. Krishnaveni, in the presence of Shri Ravi Kumar Balla from NPCIL’s Kovvada Project and Sri Amritesh Srivastava, Deputy General Manager, Corporate Communications, NPCIL Mumbai.
Addressing over 1,200 students, Sri Amritesh Srivastava explained critical aspects of nuclear power, including radiation safety, nuclear waste management, and the defence-in-depth strategy employed in nuclear operations. He also highlighted the clean, green, and sustainable benefits of electricity generation through nuclear energy.
Speaking at the event, Principal Smt. N. Krishnaveni lauded NPCIL’s efforts to educate the public and praised the initiative for reaching out to communities in Srikakulam and nearby areas.
Campaign Objectives and Reach
The “Atom on Wheels” mobile exhibition aims to simplify and explain the societal applications of nuclear energy, dispelling common apprehensions while showcasing its role in everyday life. Over the next four months, the exhibition will travel to approximately 240 to 250 villages, visiting schools, hospitals, panchayat offices, community centers, and tehsil bhavans in the region surrounding the proposed Kovvada Atomic Power Project.
