Maruti Suzuki Achieves Historic Production Milestone of 2 Million Units in 2024

New delhi:Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the leader in the Indian passenger vehicle market, has achieved a historic milestone by producing 2 million vehicles in a calendar year for the first time. This makes Maruti Suzuki the only Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) in India to reach this significant production achievement. Additionally, the company became the first among Suzuki Motor Corporation's global manufacturing plants to hit this landmark.

The 2 millionth vehicle, an Ertiga, was rolled off the production line at the company's advanced facility in Manesar, Haryana. Nearly 60% of these vehicles were produced in Haryana, while the remaining 40% were manufactured at the Gujarat facility. The top five vehicles produced during 2024 include the Baleno, Fronx, Ertiga, WagonR, and Brezza.

Speaking on this achievement, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, stated, “Reaching the 2 million production milestone is a testament to India's manufacturing capabilities and our unwavering dedication to the ‘Make in India’ initiative. This accomplishment underscores our commitment to driving economic growth, fostering self-reliance in India’s automobile industry, and enhancing its global competitiveness. We thank our customers, employees, and partners for their continued support.”

Maruti Suzuki operates three manufacturing facilities in India: two in Haryana (Gurgaon and Manesar) and one in Gujarat (Hansalpur). These plants have a combined annual production capacity of 2.35 million units. In response to increasing demand, the company is expanding its capacity with a new greenfield facility in Kharkhoda, Haryana. The first phase of the facility, expected to begin operations in 2025 with an annual capacity of 250,000 units, will eventually ramp up to 1 million units annually. Another greenfield facility with a capacity of 1 million units is also in the planning stages.

A strong advocate of the 'Make in India' initiative, Maruti Suzuki contributes to nearly 40% of India’s total passenger vehicle exports. The company has been India’s top passenger vehicle exporter for the past three years, exporting 17 models to over 100 countries. Key export models include the Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Dzire, and Swift.
