Atom on Wheels’ Exhibition Launched in Andhra Pradesh to Raise Awareness on Nuclear Energy

Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh: In a significant effort to dispel myths and increase public understanding of nuclear energy, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, inaugurated its mobile exhibition campaign, “Atom on Wheels,” in Srikakulam district.

The event, held at the Government College of Women, was graced by Smt. N. Krishnaveni, Principal of the college, who officially launched the initiative. She was joined by Shri Ravi Kumar Balla from NPCIL’s Kovvada Project and Sri Amritesh Srivastava, Deputy General Manager of Corporate Communications, NPCIL Mumbai.

Addressing an audience of over 1,200 students, Sri Amritesh Srivastava delivered an engaging presentation on the multifaceted benefits of nuclear energy, emphasizing its clean, green, and sustainable nature. Topics such as radiation, nuclear waste management, and the safe operation of nuclear power plants were highlighted to dispel misconceptions and provide a deeper understanding of nuclear technology.

Principal Smt. N. Krishnaveni lauded NPCIL’s initiative, praising their efforts to educate the people of Srikakulam and nearby villages about the advantages and societal applications of nuclear energy.

The “Atom on Wheels” campaign is designed as a mobile exhibition that will travel to schools, hospitals, community centers, and village Panchayat offices surrounding the proposed Kovvada Atomic Power Project site. Over the next three to four months, the bus will visit approximately 240 to 250 villages, using educational films, banners, and posters to simplify complex concepts for the general public.

The initiative aims to engage students, women, youth, and local community members, providing an accessible platform to learn about nuclear energy’s role in electricity generation and its broader applications in daily life.

This mobile campaign reinforces NPCIL’s commitment to creating awareness and addressing public concerns regarding nuclear energy, ensuring an informed and inclusive dialogue with communities across India.
