Police permission sought for October 5 Rasta Roko

Hyderabad: A coalition of opposition parties on Wednesday appealed to DGP M Mahender Reddy to grant permission to organize Rasta Roko on October 5 demanding the implementation of the Forest Rights Act in Telangana. Mallu Ravi of Congress, Chada Venkat Reddy, CPI, Narasimha Rao, CPM, S Venkateshwara Rao CPI(ML) ND, K Rama, CPI (ML) ND, and Prof M Kodandaram, TJS, urged the DGP to ensure that fundamental rights are neither violated nor curtailed in the process of enforcing law and order.They demanded the prevention of misuse of 151 Cr PC, initiate action against those who indulge in lathi charge and misbehaviour with peaceful political activists and allow them to organise Rasta Roko on October 5.They have demanded action against the policemen who allegedly ill-treated Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS) president, M Kodandaram tearing his clothes while arresting him to prevent his participation in Bharat Bandh.It is pointed out that the Congress government in the combined Andhra Pradesh treated him with respect even when he conducted the Million March and “Sagara Haram” at Tank Bund.
