Indian Wrestler Vinesh Phogat Disqualified From Paris Olympics 2024 Sports

In a big blow to India's medal hopes, wrestler Vinesh Phogat has been disqualified form the 50kg freestyle wrestling final at the Paris Olympics 2024. The Indian Olympic contingent in its statement said that Phogat weighed in a few grams over 50kg and was disqualified. "It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of the disqualification of Vinesh Phogat from the Women’s Wrestling 50kg class. Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning. No further comments will be made by the contingent at this time. The Indian team requests you respect Vinesh’s privacy. It would like to focus on the competitions on hand," read the official statement. Vinesh reached the finals after beating Yusneylis Guzman of Cuba 5-0 in the semifinals and was assured of a medal. She was about to face United State's Sarah Ann Hildbrandt in the Gold match.
