India Ranks in Top 10 for AI Readiness, BCG Report Shows
AI Transforming Key Sectors in India, With Focus on Agriculture and Healthcare BCG Report Highlights India’s Growing AI Talent and Research Strength AI Readiness Key to India’s Economic Future, Says BCG
India has secured a spot among the top 10 countries in AI readiness, according to the latest report by the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). The study, which assessed 73 global economies, highlights the transformative potential of AI across industries and its role in reshaping economic landscapes. However, it also underscores that over 70% of economies remain underprepared for AI-driven disruptions.
The report introduces BCG’s AI Maturity Matrix, evaluating economies on their readiness and resilience to AI-induced changes. It identifies six key sectors most exposed to AI transformation: information and communication, high-tech goods, retail, financial services, public services, and motor vehicle manufacturing. Notably, India’s strengths in agriculture (17% of GDP), construction (8%), and public services (6%) position it as a rising contender with moderate exposure to disruption.
India ranks second globally in AI specialists and third in research publications, underscoring its talent base. AI is poised to revolutionize key sectors such as agriculture through precision farming, retail through supply chain optimization, and public services through enhanced service delivery.
“India’s focus on integrating AI into priority sectors like education, healthcare, and agriculture signals its potential for public sector transformation,” said Saibal Chakraborty, India Leader, Technology and Digital Advantage Practice, BCG. He emphasized the need for investments in AI infrastructure, workforce training, and ethical regulations.
Globally, only five economies—Canada, Mainland China, Singapore, the UK, and the US—are classified as “AI pioneers” due to their robust R&D and skilled talent pools. The report advocates a three-pronged approach for governments: enabling foundational AI strategies, accelerating adoption, and amplifying global leadership.
BCG’s findings aim to guide policymakers in leveraging AI for sustainable growth and ensuring readiness for its far-reaching impact.
