Govt of Andhra Pradesh Hosts Handloom Exhibition at Satya Sai Nigamagamam

Hyderabad:The Handloom and Textile Department of the Andhra Pradesh Government has organized a six-day Handloom Exhibition 2024 at Sri Satyasai Nigamagama, Srinagar Colony. The exposition was officially inaugurated by K. Sunitha, Principal Secretary to the Government of Andhra Pradesh, alongside Rekha Rani, Commissioner of Handloom and Textiles, Andhra Pradesh.

Speaking at the event, Principal Secretary K. Sunitha emphasized the state's rich cultural heritage in the handloom sector, which has been evolving over generations. She highlighted that Andhra Pradesh is home to 1,77,447 handloom weavers and pointed out that 35 types of handloom products from the state have been recognized as part of the "One District One Product" (ODOP) initiative. These include renowned items such as Uppada Jamdani, Mangalgiri, Venkatagiri, and Dharmavaram silk sarees, all of which have received Geographical Indication (GI) recognition. Sunitha noted that these products are a testament to the region’s cultural and artistic traditions and praised the Indian government’s various welfare schemes for handloom workers.

Rekha Rani, the Commissioner of Handloom and Textiles, Andhra Pradesh, highlighted the collaborative efforts between the state government and various institutions in promoting the handloom and textile industry. She encouraged the public to visit the exhibition, which will run until December 27, showcasing a variety of distinguished handloom products. Featured items include Ponduru Khadi & Shirting, Vizianagaram lungis, Anakapalli silk, Konaseema cotton, Uppada Jamdani, Eluru carpets, Pedana Kalamkari, Bandaru, Mangalgiri, Venkatagiri cotton & silk, Srikalahasthi pen Kalamkari, Dharmavaram, Kodumur Gadwal, Uravakonda silk, and Kuppadam sarees, along with various dress materials. The exhibition offers a unique opportunity to explore the finest handloom products from Andhra Pradesh all under one roof.
