Misuse of Power: A Threat to Democracy and the Rights of Elected Representatives in Telangana | DR Sravan Kumar

Hyderabad | WUT

n a deeply troubling turn of events, BRS Spokesperson Dr. Sravan Dasoju has vehemently condemned the blatant misuse of power by the Telangana Police in the case filed against BRS MLA Shri Padi Kaushik Reddy. The MLA, who had a prior appointment with @acpbanjarahill1, visited the police station to file a legitimate complaint regarding the illegal tapping of his phone. What should have been a routine matter turned into an appalling incident of resistance and humiliation, with a false case being registered against him by the @shobanjarahills police.is incident, according to Dr. Dasoju, is a glaring example of the fascist governance under Chief Minister Shri Revanth Reddy’s administration. The fact that an elected representative, with all the privileges afforded to him by the Constitution, was treated with such disdain and injustice is a direct attack on the democratic fabric of Telangana. It raises a serious question: How far will this government go in undermining the rights of its elected officials? Dr. Sravan Dasoju’s criticism didn’t stop there. He drew a striking contrast between the swift actions of the police in filing an FIR against former Minister Shri Harish Rao, based on a malicious phone tapping complaint, and their refusal to even acknowledge a legitimate complaint from an MLA against the state’s Chief Minister. "How is it that the Punjagutta PS @shopanjagutta promptly filed an FIR against Shri Harish Rao, based on an anonymous, malicious complaint, while the same police force refuses to entertain a complaint from an elected representative about CM Revanth Reddy?" Dr. Dasoju asked. This, he argues, is a glaring display of partisan behavior that exposes the Telangana Police as mere puppets to the whims of the ruling party. The police, rather than serving the people impartially, are now seen as enforcers of a dictatorial agenda. The question arises: Does the rule of law exist in Telangana, or is there one law for the Chief Minister and another for the opposition? Such selective justice is deeply troubling and goes against the very principles of democracy. Dr. Dasoju expressed grave concern over the precedent being set, where an elected representative is denied justice, and instead, is subjected to humiliation. "When an elected MLA is treated with such high-handedness, what does this say about the state of democracy? If this is the treatment meted out to legislators, what is the fate of the common man?" he questioned. This attack on MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy's rights is not an isolated incident. It is indicative of a larger, disturbing trend of erosion of democratic values and legislative freedoms in Telangana under the current regime. Dr. Dasoju called this a grave assault on democracy and the sanctity of legislative institutions. His words echo a warning: the people of Telangana must stand united to safeguard the democratic principles that form the foundation of the state. The issue is not just one of an individual MLA's rights being trampled upon but a broader concern for the future of Telangana's democratic governance. Dr. Dasoju has called for an immediate accountability of the Telangana Police, urging them to remember their constitutional duty to uphold justice impartially. The police must act as protectors of democracy, not as enforcers of a political agenda. In these uncertain times, the people of Telangana must question whether the state is moving towards an autocratic regime where the rights of the opposition and elected representatives are compromised. It is crucial that the citizens and leaders alike stand firm in their commitment to democratic ideals and resist any attempts to dismantle the democratic fabric of Telangana. As the BRS continues to rally against this misuse of power, it is clear that the battle for justice and democracy in Telangana is far from over. The people’s voice must prevail over the growing authoritarian tendencies threatening the state’s political landscape.
