Bengaluru, December 2024: A landmark in India’s transportation sector unfolded today as AICTE Chairman, Dr. T. G. Sitharam, inaugurated the Center of Excellence in Autonomous Mobility at MIT Bengaluru. This cutting-edge facility, developed in collaboration with Decibel Lab Pvt. Ltd. and Virya AI (Maini Group), promises to spearhead advancements in autonomous vehicle technology.
Unveiling of Autonomous Electric Buggy
A major highlight of the event was the launch of a state-of-the-art six-seater autonomous electric buggy. Designed by Virya AI in partnership with the Center, the vehicle showcases the transformative potential of autonomous mobility in delivering smarter, safer, and more sustainable transportation solutions.
Driving Innovation with Advanced Tools
Equipped with LIDAR sensors, radar systems, high-resolution cameras, and simulation software, the Center will serve as a hub for research and innovation. It aims to develop reliable autonomous mobility solutions, enabling collaboration among students, researchers, and industry professionals.
Partnerships Bridging Academia and Industry
Decibel Lab Pvt. Ltd. and Virya AI have played key roles in establishing the Center. While Decibel Lab brings expertise in autonomous four-wheeler technology, Virya AI’s contributions include the development of the autonomous buggy unveiled at the event. These partnerships underscore the initiative’s focus on integrating academic research with real-world applications.
Vision for the Future
Prof. Madhu Veeraraghavan, Pro Vice-Chancellor of MAHE, praised the initiative, stating, “The Center of Excellence in Autonomous Mobility reflects MAHE’s dedication to innovation and sustainable solutions. This facility will enable transformative advancements in transportation while fostering research and industry collaboration.”
Dr. Iven Jose, Director of MIT Bengaluru, highlighted the broader objectives, saying, “This Center is a fusion of technology, academia, and industry expertise. With exclusive labs for sensor design, algorithm development, and cybersecurity, it is poised to address challenges in autonomous mobility and create assistive technologies for the future.”
