Hyderabad: Scores of Andhra Pradesh (AP) natives thronged Hyderabad’s KPHB bus stand on Friday, January 10, as they prepared to head to their hometowns for the Sankranti festival. A video circulating on social media shows a massive crowd gathered at the bus stand.

Residents from across Hyderabad flocked to various bus stations, while toll plazas on the Hyderabad-Vijayawada route witnessed heavy traffic due to the festival rush. To manage the situation, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has opened 12 out of 16 toll booths on the route, accommodating the surge of vehicles heading toward AP. At the Pantangi toll plaza in the Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, additional police personnel have been deployed to prevent traffic jams.

Traffic officials estimate that one vehicle crosses the toll plaza every four seconds, translating to approximately 900 vehicles per hour. To ensure smooth traffic flow, cranes and towing vehicles have been stationed at strategic points along the highway to address breakdowns swiftly.

The Telangana government has declared Sankranti holidays from January 11 to 14, adding to the festive travel frenzy.
