In a bid to dispel myths and raise awareness about nuclear energy, the Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL), under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, has launched the “Atom on Wheels” mobile exhibition. The initiative was inaugurated at the Government College of Women in Shrikakulam district by Principal Smt. N. Krishnaveni in the presence of NPCIL officials, including Shri Ravi Kumar Balla from the Kovvada Project and Deputy General Manager for Corporate Communications, Shri Amritesh Srivastava.Addressing over 1,200 students at the event, Shri Amritesh Srivastava explained the benefits and safety measures associated with nuclear energy. He highlighted key aspects such as radiation management, nuclear waste handling, and the “defense-in-depth” approach, while emphasizing nuclear power as a clean, green, and sustainable energy source. Smt. Krishnaveni commended NPCIL's efforts to educate the community and dispel misconceptions about nuclear power. The "Atom on Wheels" exhibition aims to engage communities around the proposed Kovvada Atomic Power Project in Shrikakulam district. Over the next four months, the mobile unit will visit approximately 240 villages, including schools, hospitals, community centers, and panchayat offices, to showcase the societal applications of nuclear energy. Equipped with educational films, banners, and posters, the bus provides a simplified explanation of nuclear energy's role in day-to-day life. The outreach initiative targets diverse audiences, including students, women, local workers, and gram panchayat members, to promote a better understanding of nuclear energy's advantages and its safe operations. The campaign is part of NPCIL’s broader mission to foster public trust in nuclear energy and highlight its role in sustainable development. By addressing public concerns and misconceptions, the initiative seeks to pave the way for informed discussions about nuclear projects and their benefits to society.
