Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL), the country’s leading passenger vehicle manufacturer, has reached a remarkable milestone of 3 million cumulative vehicle exports, underscoring its role as a cornerstone of India’s automobile industry and its commitment to the Government’s ‘Make in India’ initiative.
The landmark 3 millionth vehicle was part of a shipment of 1,053 units that departed yesterday from Gujarat’s Pipavav port. The consignment included popular models like the Celerio, Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Ciaz, Dzire, and S-Presso.
Having started exports in 1986, Maruti Suzuki shipped its first major consignment of 500 vehicles to Hungary in 1987. It reached the 1 million export mark in FY 2012-13, followed by 2 million in FY 2020-21. The journey from 2 million to 3 million took just 3 years and 9 months, making it the company’s fastest million milestone to date.
Record-breaking Growth in Exports
October 2024 marked Maruti Suzuki's highest-ever monthly exports with 33,168 units, further cementing its position as India’s top passenger vehicle exporter with a 40% market share.
Speaking on the achievement, Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, said, “The 3 million milestone is a testament to India’s manufacturing prowess and the global acceptance of Maruti Suzuki’s vehicles. We are grateful to the Government of India for its policies and trade agreements that have bolstered export growth. Aligned with the ‘Make in India’ vision, Maruti Suzuki remains committed to deep localization and expanding exports. Today, 40% of all passenger vehicle exports from India come from Maruti Suzuki, making us the country’s leading vehicle exporter.”
Takeuchi further highlighted the company’s ambitious plans, stating, “Maruti Suzuki has tripled its exports over the past four years, and we aim to ramp up shipments to 7.5 lakh units by 2030-31 to meet growing global demand.”

Latin America, Africa, Asia, and the Middle East remain key markets, with models such as the Fronx, Jimny, Baleno, Dzire, and S-Presso leading in global demand.
