BRS holds Congress government responsible for tribal student’s death

Hyderabad: The tragic death of Sailaja, a tribal student from the tribal welfare residential educational institution (Gurukul) at Wankidi in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, has sparked outrage, with senior BRS leaders accusing the Congress government of gross negligence. Former Minister and senior BRS MLA T Harish Rao and MLC K Kavitha demanded accountability and immediate relief for the grieving family.

Sailaja was hospitalised following food poisoning in Gurukul at Wankidi in the first week of this month, along with several other students. As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted to Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) and was kept on ventilator for treatment.

Harish Rao blamed the government’s negligence for the student’s death. He said the young girl, who should have been learning and playing with her peers, died due to food poisoning at the Gurukul. “The government not only failed to ensure the quality of food but also neglected to provide timely medical care. The Congress government’s apathy has left parents devastated, and their inaction during the child’s 25-day battle on a ventilator is unforgivable,” he said.

He demanded an ex gratia of Rs 50 lakh for Sailaja’s family and held Chief Minister Revanth Reddy directly responsible for the tragedy.

MLC Kavitha termed Sailaja’s death a result of the Congress government’s incompetence. “This is not an isolated incident; 43 students have died in 11 months due to the State administration’s failures. These are murders committed by the Revanth Reddy government,” she added. Kavitha also criticised the government for failing to provide basic necessities in welfare schools.
