Tension in Malkajgiri as BJP, TRS leaders clash
Hyderabad: The BJP’s call for a protest against the attack on its corporator by TRS workers led to tension in the Malkajgiri constituency on Monday. V Sravan, BJP corporator was attacked with a beer bottle following an argument between him and the local TRS MLA Mynampally Hanumantha Rao during the flag hoisting event at the GHMC office on Sunday.
The argument turned soon into a scuffle between the two groups after Hanumantha Rao allegedly questioned Sravan in connection with some local development issues. This is led to fisticuffs between the TRS and BJP activists. In the melee, Sravan suffered leg injuries while his brother was stabbed in the stomach.
BJP’s state president Bandi Sanjay demanded that TRS workers involved in the attack be charged with an attempt to murder. Addressing a press conference, the TRS MLA had used unparliamentarily language against Sanjay and challenged him to prove charges against him. This sparked an angry reaction from BJP leaders, who demanded an apology.
BJP leaders staged a sit-in at the Vinayak Nagar crossroad and also burnt an effigy of the TRS MLA. Police detained the protestors and shifted them to a police station.
