Thane: A two-year-old child narrowly escaped a fall from the 13th floor of a high-rise in Dombivli, Thane, thanks to the quick thinking of a man whose heroic act has since gone viral on social media. The child only suffered minor injuries, according to officials.
The incident occurred last week in the Devichapada locality. In the viral video, Bhavesh Mhatre can be seen rushing toward the falling child. Although he couldn't catch her fully, his quick response helped break the fall, reducing the impact when she hit the ground.
Eyewitnesses said the child had been playing on the balcony of her 13th-floor apartment when she slipped and hung from the edge before falling.
“She was hanging precariously at the balcony’s edge for a while before falling,” one eyewitness shared. Mhatre, who was passing by, didn’t hesitate for a moment and rushed forward, determined to save the child’s life. “There is no religion greater than courage and humanity,” he told reporters.
A civic official praised Mhatre’s bravery and confirmed that plans were underway to publicly honor his heroic actions.
