Massive Fire Erupts at Hussain Sagar During Republic Day Fireworks in Hyderabad; Four Injured

Hyderabad: A massive fire broke out at Hussain Sagar on Sunday, January 26, during the fireworks display organized by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president G Kishan Reddy as part of the 76th Republic Day celebrations. The event, held at People's Plaza on Necklace Road, was part of the Bharata Matha Maha Aarti organized by the Bharat Matha Foundation.

Following the conclusion of the aarti, BJP president G Kishan Reddy gave the green light for the fireworks display. Unfortunately, the fireworks caused a significant fire accident, injuring four individuals.

One of the victims, 35-year-old Ganapathy, who was in charge of the fireworks, sustained serious burn injuries. He is currently undergoing treatment at Yashoda Hospital in Secunderabad and is in critical condition, with doctors reporting that he is on a ventilator.

Ganapathy’s brother-in-law revealed that he had been working as a firecracker expert for the past 10 years.

Kishan Reddy visited Ganapathy in the hospital and assured his family of all possible support. Ganapathy hails from East Godavari district in Andhra Pradesh.

The other three injured individuals—Krishna (47), Sai Chand (21), and Raghu (22)—suffered minor injuries and were discharged after treatment.

The Secretariat station house officer (SHO) stated that preliminary investigations indicated the fireworks were set off from a distance. "It appears that the crackers hit the boats, which led to the fire," the SHO explained.

When asked whether permission was granted for the fireworks display, the SHO confirmed that such events require approval from senior police officials, adding that the state tourism department would have granted permission. However, he did not provide further details.
