Formula E Race: BRS Files Police Complaint Against Telangana CM

Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders, including RS Praveen Kumar, filed a police complaint on Tuesday, January 28, against Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, urging for a thorough investigation into the cancellation of the Formula E race.

The complaint, submitted to the Narsingi police station, detailed the alleged repercussions of the cancellation. BRS leaders called for the Chief Minister to be named as an accused and summoned for police questioning.

According to Praveen Kumar, during the BRS government’s tenure, the Formula E race was meticulously planned with the aim of boosting Telangana’s revenue. The complaint also emphasized delays in the establishment of the E-Mobility Valley in Hyderabad, a project that could have attracted substantial investments and created numerous job opportunities.

“Revanth Reddy unilaterally cancelled the Formula E race, leading to significant losses, including the derailment of the E-Mobility Valley project and the loss of thousands of jobs,” Kumar stated.

He further accused the Congress government of undermining Telangana’s growth through ineffective governance and decisions that have negatively impacted the state's progress.

Formula E Scam
After the Congress party came to power in Telangana, it was revealed that the previous BRS government had spent Rs 54 crore, including Rs 8 crore in taxes, on Formula E, the organizers of Season 10 in Hyderabad, without Cabinet approval. A memo was issued to IAS officer Arvind Kumar questioning the authorization of this expenditure.

The state government also alleged that Rs 55 crore was spent on the event, and raised concerns over the lack of action against Ace Nxt Gen, a Greenko subsidiary, for defaulting and withdrawing from the event. This led to the cancellation of the 2024 Formula E race in Hyderabad, originally scheduled for February, with organizers citing a "breach of contract."

In the wake of the cancellation, KTR criticized the Congress government’s decision, calling it "poor and regressive." During a Cabinet meeting on December 16, a decision was made to expedite the inquiry into KTR and the alleged irregularities.
