Srinagar: 4,000 km Cycle Expedition from Kashmir to Kanyakumari Flagged Off to Promote Pollution-Free India
A remarkable 4,000 km cycle expedition, aimed at promoting a pollution-free India, was flagged off from Srinagar on Thursday, January 16. The journey, which will cover a distance of 4,048 km, started from the iconic Lal Chowk and is set to pass through several states before concluding at Kanyakumari.
The expedition, featuring participants from Maharashtra, includes two cyclists in their 60s. The rally was flagged off by Rajiv Pande, the Deputy Inspector General of Central Kashmir Range.
Among the participants, Satish Jadhav, a 67-year-old cyclist, expressed his hope that every citizen of India would unite for a pollution-free nation. He also urged the younger generation to take up cycling for better health. "I plan to ride my cycle for 100 years, and today, I begin this journey to Kanyakumari. I encourage everyone to take an interest in nature," Jadhav said.
Another cyclist, Bhanusali, 64, highlighted the expedition’s mission to raise awareness about saving the Earth. "To save the planet, we must make it pollution-free. Cycling is a great initiative to help spread this message. If pollution continues to spread, neither our country nor the world can be saved. Take Dal Lake, for example—it was once pristine, but it's no longer clean," Bhanusali remarked.
During the flag-off ceremony, DIG Pande spoke to the media, emphasizing the importance of promoting fitness. "When I heard about two senior citizens taking part in the cycle expedition, I thought it was crucial to support and encourage them to spread the message across the country. Fitness plays a key role in reducing various issues, including drug abuse. This event is a source of inspiration for both the youth of Kashmir and the people of India," he added.
