Telangana Government Fully Prepared, Says Health Minister
Telangana’s Health Minister, Damodara Raja Narasimha, addressed concerns over HMPV, clarifying that while it has been circulating globally since 2001, it is not a new virus. He explained that HMPV primarily affects the respiratory system, usually causing mild symptoms. The virus is transmitted through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes, underscoring the importance of hygiene practices in preventing its spread.
The minister noted a notable increase in HMPV cases in China this year, which has sparked concerns among health officials. However, he reassured the public that health authorities are closely monitoring the situation both internationally and within various Indian states.
Health Minister Assures Public and Warns Against Misinformation
Minister Narasimha emphasized that the Telangana government is fully prepared to manage any potential outbreaks, with all necessary medical facilities in place. He also reassured the public that the health department is working in coordination with central health authorities to ensure a strong and responsive approach.
He urged the public to avoid panic, stressing the importance of remaining cautious while also combating misinformation circulating on social media. “Accurate information is crucial for public awareness and to alleviate unnecessary fear,” he said.
Finally, Narasimha called for stronger disease surveillance systems and preparedness measures at the district level, ensuring higher authorities remain vigilant and ready to address any health challenges related to HMPV.
