Hyderabad: Brain-Dead Constable’s Organ Donation Saves Lives, Leaves a Lasting Legacy
While many aspire to eternal peace in heaven after death, some choose to create a lasting impact on Earth by donating their organs to save lives. Peddolla Prashanth Reddy, a police constable serving at Kandukuru Police Station under the Rachakonda commissionerate, was one such remarkable individual.
Prashanth Reddy, who tragically became brain-dead after a road accident on December 28, gave the gift of life to two individuals by donating his heart and kidneys. The accident occurred when an unidentified vehicle struck his vehicle as he was returning home.
After suffering a severe head injury, he was admitted to Yashoda Hospital in Malakpet, where he passed away on January 4 despite medical efforts to save him.
In an inspiring act of kindness, Prashanth’s wife, Sowmya, and his father, Nagireddy—who is a retired assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI)—made the courageous decision to donate his organs through the Jeevandan organ donation program. This noble gesture ensured that Prashanth’s legacy would continue through the lives he saved.
Rachakonda Police Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu commended the bereaved family for their selfless act and assured them of full departmental support. As a gesture of solidarity, he handed over ₹90,000 to Prashanth’s family to assist with his final rites, which were performed in Hyderabad on Sunday, January 5.
This heartwarming story serves as a reminder of the profound impact organ donation can have, transforming grief into hope and loss into new beginnings for those in need.
