Hyderabad: Telangana Drug Control Administration Seizes Rs 1.5 Lakh Worth of Tablets Sold as Food Products
On Friday, January 3, the Telangana Drug Control Administration (DCA) confiscated tablets worth Rs 1.5 lakh from a medical store in Hyderabad's Kokapet area. The seized tablets, branded as Alcium-D3 (Calcium with Vitamin D3), were found to be falsely marketed as food products.
The tablets, manufactured by Hindustan Nutraceuticals in Medchal-Malkajgiri Industrial Park, were being sold under a Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) license, misleading consumers into believing they were food items. However, according to the label composition, the product is classified as a drug under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act of 1940.
The DCA confirmed that the product must be manufactured under a valid drug license, adhering to the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) outlined in Schedule M of the Drugs Rules.
