Hyderabad: A tragic accident involving a bus carrying Ayyappa devotees from the Old City of Hyderabad claimed the life of one person and left 30 others injured on Wednesday. The incident took place near Kanmala Attivalam in Kottayam, Kerala, when the bus lost control and veered off the ghat road while heading to Sabarimala.

The accident was averted from becoming a major disaster, thanks to trees along the road that stopped the bus from plunging further. However, eight Ayyappa devotees sustained serious injuries in the crash.

The bus driver, Raju, from Saidabad, lost his life in the accident, and 30 passengers were injured. Among the injured, eight were seriously hurt, while 22 others sustained minor injuries.

The devotees, from Madannapet in Hyderabad's Old City, were on their pilgrimage to the Sabarimala temple when the accident occurred. The bus overturned about 15 kilometers from the Pamba River.

Surviving devotees praised the presence of trees along the ghat road, which helped prevent the incident from escalating into a catastrophe.

The injured passengers were quickly transported to Kottayam Medical College Hospital for medical treatment.
