Crystal Crop Protection Expands Leadership in Rice Herbicides with Acquisition of Ethoxysulfuron Assets from Bayer AG

Crystal Crop Protection Strengthens Market Position with Strategic Acquisition of Ethoxysulfuron, Set to Boost EBITDA by 20%

Crystal Crop Protection Limited, a leader in agricultural innovation, has announced the acquisition of the active ingredient Ethoxysulfuron from Bayer AG for specific Asian markets. This marks the company's 13th strategic transaction and the second acquisition from Bayer, following the 2021 acquisition of Bayer's Indian Cotton, Pearl Millet, and Mustard seed portfolio.

Supported by the International Finance Corporation (IFC), Crystal Crop Protection has been a prominent player in R&D-based crop solutions for over four decades. This latest acquisition is one of the company’s largest and is expected to increase its EBITDA by 20%, further solidifying its leadership in the rice herbicide market.

The acquisition includes the trusted Sunrice trademark and Ethoxysulfuron-based mixtures, along with all necessary registrations. Known for its effectiveness in controlling broad-leaved weeds and sedges in rice and cereal crops, Ethoxysulfuron will significantly enhance Crystal's existing portfolio. The move aligns with the company’s strategy to provide cost-effective, sustainable solutions by locally manufacturing the product, improving cost synergies and ensuring better accessibility for farmers across India, South Asia, and Southeast Asia, including countries such as Vietnam, Bangladesh, Thailand, and Pakistan.

Ankur Aggarwal, Managing Director of Crystal Crop Protection Limited, commented, "This acquisition is a testament to our commitment to strengthening our portfolio with solutions that have a lasting impact on farmers. By enhancing our distribution network and manufacturing capabilities, we will ensure these advanced weed management solutions reach farmers effectively across our key markets."

Crystal’s deep understanding of the rice ecosystem makes this acquisition a natural extension of its existing offerings, supporting farmers with integrated solutions from seed to harvest. Through its growing presence and partnerships in South Asia and Southeast Asia, the company is enhancing its position as a leading provider of agricultural solutions.

Crystal Crop Protection has consistently expanded through strategic acquisitions, including the 2024 purchase of I&B Seeds, and has established a strong track record of acquiring brands from global industry leaders like Syngenta, FMC, Bayer, BASF, and Dow-Corteva, reinforcing its position at the forefront of the crop protection sector.
