KTR Accuses Congress of Spending Rs 1000 Crore on Changing Telangana Abbreviation
Hyderabad: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao (KTR) on Saturday, January 4, accused the Congress of spending Rs 1,000 crore to change the abbreviation of Telangana from TS to TG after assuming power. KTR shared an image of the Telangana e-procurement portal, which contained details about the modification of vehicle registration and licenses from Telangana State (TS) to Telangana (TG). He mocked Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, suggesting that the expenditure was to cater to his ego.
The former Telangana minister argued that the same amount of money could have been used to provide Rs 2 lakh loan waivers to farmers in the state, and Rs 2,500 per month could have been given to 40 lakh women in Telangana, as promised in the Congress manifesto ahead of the state Assembly elections. KTR also pointed out that Rs 1,000 crore could have been used to provide Rs 4,000 per month to 25 lakh elderly citizens, or at least 1 lakh women in Telangana could have received gold and scooties as per Congress's election promises.
However, Hyderabad Real Estate and Infra, an X user, fact-checked KTR's claim, stating that the Congress government in Telangana had spent only Rs 1.37 crore to change the state abbreviation on vehicle registration and licenses.
