Hyderabad: Mufeed ul Anam Boys High School, located in Alijah Kotla, is set to lose a portion of its land for the development of the Old City metro rail project. Established in 1880, the government-aided private school holds significant historical value in Hyderabad's Old City, with notable alumni such as former Hyderabad mayor Teegala Krishna Reddy, former Osmania General Hospital superintendent Dr. Girish Narayan, and barrister Akbar Ali Khan, former governor of Odisha.

Although the school will lose a significant area, its management is confident that the changes will not disrupt its functioning. "Only the front portion of the school, including the front wall, two washrooms, and two shops (Malgi), will be demolished for the project. After the demolition, approximately 778 square yards of the land will remain intact," explained Dharmendra, the school secretary.

The management has received Rs 1.54 crore as compensation for the land lost to the project. According to Hyderabad Collector Anudeep Durishetty, a total of 175 people have surrendered their properties for the Old City metro rail project, with 40 oustees receiving cheques amounting to Rs 20 crore. A total of 1,100 properties in the Old City will be affected, with notices issued to 800 properties by the Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL).

Along with the school, several other residents of the Old City have been compensated for their land. Ahmed Riyaz, a resident of Alijah Kotla, shared that he received Rs 14 lakh for the 8.1 square yards of his land used for the metro project. Shankar, a Moghalpura resident, mentioned that three of his repositories would be demolished, and 9 square yards of his land would be utilized for the project.

Despite the partial demolition, Dharmendra assured that the school, which spans 1,000 square yards, would continue to operate smoothly on the remaining land.
