KL Pharmacy Pioneers Drug Delivery and Neuro Research
KL College of Pharmacy, part of KL Deemed to be University, is setting benchmarks in healthcare innovation through its pioneering research in neuropharmacology and advanced drug delivery systems. With substantial support from key government bodies such as the Science and Engineering Research Board (SERB), the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), and the Government of India, the institution is addressing critical healthcare challenges.
Focus on Diabetes and Stroke Treatment
Dr. Kakarla Ramakrishna, a professor at the college, is spearheading research into glucose-induced vascular and brain injuries in conditions like diabetes and ischemic stroke. Supported by a ₹42.7 lakh grant from SERB, his team is investigating platelet and brain mitochondrial functions using traditional and novel natural antidiabetic and antiplatelet agents. The research aims to develop safer, more effective treatments, with the potential for patented natural product formulations that could revolutionize care for these severe conditions.
Revolutionizing Drug Delivery Systems
Professor Buchi N. Nalluri is leading two transformative projects in drug delivery technology. The first, funded by an ₹11.87 lakh DBT grant, focuses on creating a microneedle sensor-based device for continuous lactate monitoring in point-of-care testing. This less invasive method aims to enhance patient care, particularly in cases of sepsis and trauma.
The second project, backed by a ₹58.67 lakh ICMR grant, is developing a microneedle array patch for delivering the Haemophilus Influenza Type-B (Hib) vaccine. This innovative system seeks to overcome common barriers such as injection anxiety, vaccine wastage, and thermal instability, enabling broader and faster immunization coverage.
Commitment to Global Health Challenges
“Our research goes beyond academic excellence; it addresses global health challenges with sustainable solutions,” said Dr. G. Pardha Saradhi Varma, Vice Chancellor of KL Deemed to be University. “From neuropharmacology to innovative drug delivery, these projects exemplify our mission to push the boundaries of science and technology for humanity’s benefit.”
State-of-the-Art Facilities and Programs
Situated in the serene Green Fields of Andhra Pradesh, KL College of Pharmacy offers a comprehensive range of programs, including B.Pharm, Pharm.D, M.Pharm in Pharmaceutics, and Ph.D. Its advanced facilities, such as the Center for Excellence in Preclinical Studies and the Central Instrumentation Facility, reinforce its commitment to quality research and education.
