ASRTU Launches "Drivers Day" to Honour Public Transport Drivers Nationwide

The Association of State Road Transport Undertakings (ASRTU) has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative, designating "Drivers Day" to honour public transport drivers across India. This effort recognises the critical role drivers play in ensuring safe and reliable transportation for millions.

Under the initiative, ASRTU will award ₹5,000 each to two outstanding drivers from every public bus transport organisation in the country. These awards aim to acknowledge their dedication and encourage excellence in public transport.

ASRTU Vice President, Ch. Dwarka Tirumala Rao (IPS), emphasized, “This initiative seeks to inspire a culture of appreciation and excellence within the public transport sector.” Transport organisations are encouraged to host recognition ceremonies led by their respective heads.

Representing over 1,50,000 buses and serving more than 70 million passengers daily, ASRTU plays a pivotal role in public mobility. Telangana's Managing Director, V.C. Sajjanar (IPS), highlighted the vital contributions of drivers, stating, “Drivers ensure smooth commutes, significantly impacting the economy and social mobility.”

T. Surya Kiran, Executive Director of ASRTU, echoed these sentiments, noting, “Drivers are the backbone of public transport, navigating challenging road conditions to deliver millions of passengers safely and punctually. Recognising their contributions is essential to fostering trust and efficiency.”

The "Drivers Day" celebrations also mark the beginning of ASRTU's broader efforts to promote driver welfare and road safety. A press briefing will feature insights from leading state transporters, underscoring their commitment to the cause.

Through this initiative, ASRTU aims to spotlight the indispensable role of drivers, fostering a culture of recognition, safety, and excellence in public transport.
