RRR Victims and Farmers Meet Former Minister Harish Rao in Hyderabad: Demand Fair Compensation and Action on Election Promises
Hyderabad, Saturday: Victims of the RRR project and farmers from the surrounding regions met former Minister Harish Rao at his residence in Hyderabad, expressing their concerns and frustrations over the ongoing issues related to the land acquisition process and unmet election promises.
During the meeting, the victims elaborated on the unfulfilled promises made by Congress leaders during the election campaign. They criticized the change in stance by the ruling party after the elections, claiming that no action had been taken by Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Minister Komatireddy, or any other elected representatives to address their grievances.
The affected individuals highlighted several key issues, including the forced signing of land acquisition documents in violation of established norms, and the conducting of surveys that they argued went against the agreed-upon procedures. They accused the government of conspiring to acquire land at lower prices without following proper legal channels, and urged the state government to raise their concerns in the Assembly.
In response to the victims' distress, former Minister Harish Rao assured them of his support. He assured the farmers that the BRS party would stand by them until Congress fulfilled the promises made during the elections.
Former Minister Harish Rao’s Comments:
• Harish Rao reiterated that justice would be done for the RRR victims in the northern region, urging Congress leaders such as Priyanka Gandhi, CM Revanth Reddy, Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, and MLAs such as Kumbham Anil Kumar Reddy and Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy to uphold their election promises and address the issue.
• He expressed disappointment over Congress's failure to keep its word, despite Priyanka Gandhi having assured the affected farmers during a campaign rally in Bhongir that the party would stand by them. However, now that they are in power, they have reneged on their promises.
• The former minister pointed out the issues in the road alignment for the RRR project, with the northern region now considering only 28 kilometers instead of the promised 40 kilometers. As a result, farmers in the Choutuppal municipality and surrounding areas are suffering heavy losses as their fertile agricultural land and homes are being taken away without any proper compensation.
• The shift in the road alignment has led to the division of Choutuppal Municipality into two parts, disrupting the lives of farmers who have lost their green fields and homes. The increase in land acquisition near the Choutuppal junction, from 78 acres to 184 acres, is further compounding the problems for local farmers, who are receiving minimal compensation.
• Harish Rao recalled that when Komatireddy Venkat Reddy was an MP, he had protested with farmers to change the alignment and make adjustments in favor of the affected communities. Despite promises to revisit the road alignment during the elections, the situation has worsened, with surveys being conducted under police force and signatures being obtained under duress.
• Rao criticized Congress for its manipulation and dishonesty, accusing them of changing their stance to suit their political agenda. He remarked that the party had previously promised to develop Pharma City but was now creating chaos in fertile farmlands.
• He also questioned whether Revanth Reddy's tactics were to mislead the people, drawing attention to the broken promises regarding the road alignment and the ongoing forced land acquisitions.
• The former minister expressed dismay at how the Congress government is treating the victims of the RRR project, emphasizing the mental anguish and suffering inflicted on the farmers who were promised support by the Congress leadership, only to be ignored once the party came into power.
Call for Action:
• Harish Rao called for the government to honor its promises and ensure the full implementation of the election commitments, stating that the BRS would continue to fight for the rights of the farmers.
• He emphasized the need for the government to take into account the northern region's demands, as it had already done for the southern area by considering a 40-kilometer radius.
• If the government fails to provide fair compensation to the farmers who have lost their land, and if the surveys continue under duress, Harish Rao warned that the BRS would take a strong stand against the government and intensify its efforts until the farmers' issues are resolved.
• He concluded by assuring that the BRS would continue its fight in the Assembly, representing the victims and seeking a solution until justice is done.
