Telangana: Parents Pull Children Out of Government School Over Poor Quality Food
Hyderabad: On Sunday, December 29, several parents arrived at the Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV) government school in Dilawarpur Mandal, Nirmal district, Telangana, to withdraw their children following complaints about poor food quality being served to students.
The issue escalated after an incident on Friday when students were served poorly cooked rice. Ten students exhibited symptoms of food poisoning and were rushed to a nearby hospital. While five were discharged and sent back to the hostel, the remaining five were kept under observation.
One concerned parent shared his grievances with the media: “My son, a class VII student, has been complaining for the past 15 days about the poor food quality and has asked me to take him back home. Even the classes are not conducted properly.”
Harish Rao Reacts to Nirmal Incident
Reacting to the situation, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA T. Harish Rao criticized Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy for the deteriorating condition of government schools in Telangana.
Rao highlighted the growing number of food poisoning cases among students and the inadequate response from the administration. Referring to a similar recent incident in Adilabad where a student died from food poisoning, he said, “Students are complaining to their families about the poor food quality at government schools.”
He also accused the Telangana government of failing to ensure proper governance. “Under the BRS government, there were long queues for admissions at government schools. Now, students are lining up to leave these residential schools,” said Rao, emphasizing the gravity of the issue.
In a pointed remark directed at CM Revanth Reddy, the Siddipet MLA asked in a post on X: “What more proof is required to show your failed governance in just one year?”
The incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the management of government schools and residential facilities in Telangana.
